Friends of Donhead
The schools parents' association, Friends of Donhead ( registered charity number 28409 ), plays a valued and integrated role in the life of the school. Not only does it raise funds for school equipment and infrastructure but it also creates a forum through which parents can meet, socialise and forge friendships.
This year's Blue & White Ball is the major fund raising event of the school's social calendar. All funds raised will contribute towards the refurbishment of the Donhead school Refectory as well as support our charitable arm, The Donhead Society, which this year is seeking to raise money for our companion school St Peter's School, Mbare, Zimbabwe.
A message from the Headmaster, Mr Chris McGrath:
St Peter's is a Roman Catholic Primary School in Harare, Zimbabwe who are struggling to do its very best for all it pupils on extremely limited resources. The school caters for 1200 children with an average of 60 children per class. Resources are scant. The area in which they live is dangerous and the school itself faces immense challenges on a daily basis. Donhead was asked by Jesuit Missions to become a companion school to St Peter's and we are very proud and privileged to be so. We raised nearly £800 after our Carol Service for this school and this money has been used to set up a library serving all the children. They were overwhelmed to receive such an amount from us. I know that any funds raised for St Peter's will be put to the very best use and will help to give opportunities to these young people who have so very little.
